Garmin Nuvi 1340

The Garmin Nuvi 1340 Review

The ultra-thin Garmin Nuvi 1340 widescreen comes pre-loaded with numerous maps, guides you to the correct lane for navigation, announces streets by name, presents the data to you in an easy to read format, and best of all does so with class and style.

Who Wants to Know When to Turn Too Late?

I know I don't, guessing which lane to be in before a turn puts me on the edge of my seat. Lane Assist© gives you the correct lane well ahead of time giving you plenty of time for lane changes and slowing down if needed. This makes even the most difficult intersections a breeze to navigate. Staying up to date with current road conditions can be a valuable tool as well, as long as you keep updated longer scheduled road construction will show up. And what happens if you run across an area that wasn't planned? One touch allows you to re-route yourself to get out of the situation.

Easy to View

The Garmin Nuvi 1340 comes with 4.3 inches of easy to read screen – from any direction! Having a brilliant colored display, that is bright in all conditions make this truly a site to behold. No more wondering what is around you this screen gives you all the information you'll need.

Sleek Design

This model has went on a crash diet! So much so that it is twenty five percent thinner than other Nuvi models. This design easily fits into your purse or pocket making it a great choice for either navigation on foot or in the car. You can even take advantage of it's new Public Transit mode with the optional CityXplorer™ software. This allows you to navigate via buses, subways, trams, and more.

As Detailed Directions as You Want

Some people just want general guidance however some appreciate more detailed directions. Leave it to the 1340 to take this to a new level. Just touch the screen and you will be welcomed by a well put together interface that will allow you to get turn by turn directions that tells you street names and numbers. It comes pre-loaded with City Navigator™ with almost six million points of interest, 2D or 3D maps as well as the speed limit for most roads. The touch screen interface allows you to easily scroll through prompts with ease or even add your own custom points of interest.

More than Navigation

Although navigation is important the Garmin Nuvi 1340 will save you both money and fuel. EcoRoute a feature that calculates the most efficient routes then tracks your fuel usage. Other tools include a clock with world time zones, currency converter, calculator, world travel clock, longitude latitude, and more. You can even download pictures with Garmin Connect™. Another great feature is the "Where am I" emergency locator, with hospitals, police departments, fuel stations, restaurants, etc… I've had a few GPS navigation devices and I get a little tired of the same old voice with Garmin Garage you can download custom voices to suit your tastes. Or you can use it's built in microSD card reader for updates or transfers.

Anti-Theft

This is a two-edged sword on one hand the security feature is indispensible when securing your device but if you forget your code the manufacturer will only unlock the device in person.

Optional Accessories

  • Chargers (Car, USB)
  • Mounts (Car, Dash, Windshield, Friction)
  • Carrying Case

So You Want One Already?

Buying a Garmin Nuvi 1340 is pretty easy as their available everywhere the question is how much do you want to pay? I've found that the best places to save yourself some money is amazon for new ones and of course eBay for used models. Personally I enjoy buying used stuff because if you know what you're looking for and you are careful who you buy from you'll get yourself a great deal. Although eBay has got their share of scammers I think looking hard for the right seller can payoff (someone with over 5000 sales and no negative feedback). Just be smart and take your time and I'm sure you can find the perfect deal you've been looking for.
